Application of Epoxy Flooring Waterproof Coating

Waterproof coating is almost indispensable in the materials for epoxy flooring construction. Especially for base cracks, structural joints and pipe roots — areas prone to leakage — waterproof coating is widely adopted to enhance the anti-seepage performance of the floor.

Waterproof coating is also required for the industrial membrane waterproof layer on the floor surface. Usually, a base mat needs to be attached to improve toughness and overall service performance.

There are three main types of waterproof coatings on the market: solvent-based, water-emulsion-based and reaction-based. They can be easily dissolved in solvents and exist in the coating in the form of polymers. In general, they have the following characteristics:

1. Film formation is achieved through solvent volatilization and molecular chain bonding of polymer substances.

2. The coating dries quickly, forming a thin but dense film.

3. It features good storage stability, yet it is flammable and explosive, requiring careful storage management.

4. The production process is relatively simple.

5. Solid particles are formed by evaporation, then deformed and merged to form a continuous film.

Meanwhile, waterproof coatings must meet certain requirements during epoxy flooring construction:

First, temperature requirement: The construction temperature shall not be lower than 5℃. Too low temperature will hinder solvent reaction and volatilization.

Second, shelf life: The storage period generally shall not exceed six months. Long-term storage may cause chemical reactions with substances in the air and lead to coating deterioration. Therefore, the mixed coating should be used immediately after preparation.
