The colored sand used in colored sand epoxy flooring refers specifically to colored quartz sand, rather than other types of sand. Quartz sand is selected because quartz raw materials are widely available and feature high mineral hardness, which fundamentally guarantees the raw material quality and overall performance of the flooring. Quartz sand is originally colorless or white. With advanced new dyeing technology, quartz sand particles can be processed into richly colored grains. Combined with mixed color sand decorative designs, it endows the floor with diverse aesthetic colors.
The quartz sand should also be round or spherical in particle shape. This allows the particles to slide freely during construction, achieving the closest possible packing density. It enables the epoxy colored sand layer to be fully compacted, ensuring excellent heavy-load resistance and wear resistance of the floor. In addition, a fully compacted epoxy colored sand layer can reduce the consumption of topcoat resin and lower overall costs.
Selecting high-quality colored quartz sand is crucial for premium colored sand flooring. In the past, high-grade colored sand mainly relied on imports, and many foreign-funded enterprises purchased it directly from overseas. Nowadays, however, domestic manufacturers are capable of producing high-quality colored quartz sand. For example, the colored sand produced by Jinfeng (Taiwan) features indicators such as luster, particle roundness, gradation ratio and chemical resistance equivalent to imported products, with stable and reliable quality. It not only has a lower price, but also offers a short delivery cycle and comprehensive after-sales service, and has been adopted or designated for use by many foreign-funded enterprises.
Colored sand epoxy flooring has always been priced higher than self-leveling epoxy flooring, both in the past and at present. The fundamental reasons are higher material costs and more complex construction techniques. A few southern companies have tried to replace colored quartz sand with colored sand made from natural stone waste (containing carbonate rock) to cut costs, but the quality of such colored sand flooring cannot be guaranteed, especially its substandard wear resistance.
