How to Construct Epoxy Flooring for Factory Workshop

Different industries have different performance requirements for workshop flooring, which leads to different construction methods. When water-based epoxy coatings are applied to the floors of machinery, chemical, warehouse and other workshops, the floor is required to feature impact resistance, rolling resistance, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, construction must follow standardized procedures: base treatment → primer sealing → epoxy mortar reinforcement layer → putty coating → topcoat finishing.

1. Base Treatment

   For concrete floors with heavy oil contamination, clean the surface with 10%～15% hydrochloric acid solution, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. For large-area ordinary concrete floors, use an electric floor grinder for leveling, and remove dust, sand and oil stains completely.
   
   
2. Primer Sealing

   Mix component A and component B of epoxy primer evenly, then roll-coat onto the base surface. Two coats are recommended to fully wet and penetrate into the concrete interior for better bonding and reinforcement.
   
   
3. Intermediate Mortar Layer

   Add an appropriate amount of mixed quartz sand with different particle sizes into water-based epoxy coating and stir well. Apply by troweling to form a certain thickness, so as to improve the floor’s impact resistance and rolling resistance.
   
   
4. Putty Coating

   After the epoxy mortar layer is fully cured, apply two coats of water-based epoxy putty. Grind it flat after drying to provide a smooth and solid base for the topcoat.
   
   
5. Epoxy Floor Topcoat

   Mix component A and component B of water-based topcoat in the specified mass ratio evenly, then brush or spray onto the base. Allow it to self-level. After curing, it forms a flat, smooth multi-functional floor coating with properties of anti-static, corrosion resistance, antibacterial deodorization and odor elimination.
   
   

When water-based epoxy coatings are used in food, pharmaceutical, electrical workshops, public venues and residential floors, the construction procedure can be simplified as: base treatment → primer sealing → putty coating → topcoat finishing. The construction method of each procedure is the same as described above.

During epoxy flooring construction, the ambient temperature shall be kept above 12℃ and below 40℃, preferably between 15℃ and 40℃. The relative air humidity should be lower than 85%, ideally 65%. Excessively high or low temperature and humidity will cause poor curing and degrade the overall performance of the coating.
