Epoxy flooring construction mainly adopts two processes: thin-coat type and self-leveling type. Different application scenarios correspond to different construction techniques. The thin-coat type features a relatively thin topcoat, resulting in ordinary wear resistance. In contrast, self-leveling flooring adopts strict construction procedures with a thicker finished topcoat, delivering excellent wear resistance and high compression resistance. In addition, self-leveling flooring can be made in glossy and matte finishes with an elegant appearance, making it the preferred construction process for flooring projects in most industries.
What are the specific procedures of self-leveling construction technology?
Use a floor grinder to level uneven areas and remove surface dust to roughen the base concrete. Clean and vacuum all debris and dust thoroughly to keep the base completely clean. Cut expansion joints with a cutting machine to prevent epoxy flooring cracking caused by concrete foundation settlement in the later stage.
Purpose: Grind and clean the base surface to ensure firm adhesion between the epoxy primer and concrete substrate.
Stir the epoxy penetrating primer strictly according to the mixing ratio, then roll or brush it evenly over the base surface. Carry out repair layer construction after 24 hours of curing.
Purpose: Seal the base surface and enhance the bonding strength between primer and concrete.
Mix the repair compound in the required proportion, then use epoxy mortar to fill and level cracks, pits and uneven areas on the floor.
Purpose: Achieve a smooth base surface free of cracks and depressions, ensuring flatness for the bearing layer and epoxy topcoat.
Apply the well-proportioned epoxy intermediate coating on the repaired base. After full curing, polish the surface with a special grinder to eliminate scraper marks and further improve flatness. The intermediate coat is normally applied 2 to 3 times.
Purpose: Increase the overall thickness and flatness of the epoxy floor to achieve heavy-load compression resistance.
Fully stir the topcoat material according to the formula ratio. Spread and level evenly with a trowel. Check the curing condition after 24 to 36 hours.
Purpose: Meet aesthetic and wear-resistant requirements and present the perfect decorative effect of the flooring system.
