Floor Treatment for Warehouse Environment

As people’s requirements for environmental standards continue to rise, standards such as 5S and 7S have been widely implemented, imposing strict regulations on floor flatness, dust control and other aspects.

Warehouses feature large cargo turnover and frequent operation of equipment such as forklifts. This not only causes wear and damage to the floor surface, but also generates substantial dust, which seriously affects the warehouse environment. In finished product warehouses for food, pharmaceuticals and other industries, excessive dust may even compromise product quality.

What types of flooring are commonly used in warehouses? Are there effective ways to minimize floor damage and pollutant generation?

The most basic option is ordinary concrete flooring, which offers the poorest wear resistance and is most prone to dusting. Concrete with low cement strength grade is also likely to develop numerous pits and depressions.

Some manufacturers, especially food enterprises, attach great importance to warehouse environmental conditions from the beginning and choose traditional terrazzo flooring during construction. However, terrazzo has obvious drawbacks: high cost, long construction cycle, and great difficulty in later renovation.

Another classic option is emery wear-resistant flooring, once regarded as an ideal choice for warehouses. It delivers high hardness and excellent dust-proof performance. Its only limitation is that it must be constructed simultaneously with concrete pouring; it cannot be applied as a retrofitsolution after the concrete has fully set.

Nowadays, epoxy flooring is gaining widespread popularity and is perfectly suited for warehouse applications. It features outstanding wear resistance, low dust generation and easy daily cleaning. It boasts absolute advantages in both practical performance and aesthetic appearance, and damaged areas can be repaired quickly. For sites requiring extra surface hardness, curing agents can be added to enhance performance.

• If the hardness requirement is moderate, standard epoxy flooring is sufficient.

• If high wear resistance is essential, sealed concrete curing flooring is recommended.

  Anti-static, fire-resistant and other functional epoxy flooring can also be selected according to actual operational needs.
