Method for determining the fineness of coatings

This standard is applicable for the determination of coating fineness, using a scraper fineness meter expressed in micrometers.

This standard refers to GB1724-79 Coating Fineness Determination Method.

Instrument and equipment: long spoon, scraper fineness meter (in accordance with the standard fineness meter measurement method HGB2014-59)

Experimental steps:

1. Using a scraper fineness meter with a range of 0um to 50um

2. The scraper fineness meter must be carefully cleaned and wiped dry with solvent before use

3. Mix the sample that meets the viscosity index of the product standard, take a sample with a spoon, and drop it into the deepest groove of the scraper fineness meter, so that it can fill the groove with a slight excess.

4. Place the fineness meter on a horizontal table and hold the scraper horizontally at the edge of the sample with both hands, so that the scraper touches the surface of the polished flat plate vertically. Scrape the scraper from the deepest part of the groove to the shallowest part within 3 seconds, with a line of sight of 15-30 degrees from the plane. Observe the readings of three scratches in the area with dense scratches in the groove under light.

Experimental results: Three parallel experiments were conducted, and the arithmetic mean of two similar readings was taken. The error between the two readings should not exceed the minimum division value of the instrument.
