A Brief Discussion on the Performance and Quality Testing of Epoxy Floor Paint Coatings

Before painting, strictly control the quality of the floor paint selected to ensure the high quality of the product coating. Batch purchase of coatings can only be accepted by the process department through sampling and testing. Although the sampling and testing have representative quality performance of the batch of coatings, it cannot guarantee that the entire batch of coatings will fully meet the coating standards and various performance requirements of the factory quality standards. Therefore, it is beneficial for operators to understand and master the coating quality standards that are important to the product coating quality, as well as the various performance indicators, testing instruments and tools, and testing operation methods of the factory quality standards. This is beneficial for operators to correctly use floor paint coatings, control the quality of floor paint coatings, and improve their operational technical level.

(1) The commonly used coating quality standards and factory quality standards include international standards for coating quality (referring to solvent coatings), national standards in China, standards issued by the Ministry of Chemical Industry, and factory quality standards of various production plants. The quality standards for floor paint coatings can be determined based on factors such as fineness, viscosity, leveling, covering power, density, flash point, and consistency. Before use, there is also a daily quality test for floor paint coatings.

(2) The detection of the fineness of floor paint coating, the size of pigment and filler particles in the color coating components, and the degree of uniform dispersion in production have a significant impact on the smoothness and gloss of the coating appearance. Therefore, it is necessary to test the quality indicators of coating fineness to ensure that it meets the indicators specified in the coating quality standards. The commonly used scraper fineness meter can detect the fineness index of coatings.   

(3) The detection of viscosity of floor paint coatings is divided into relative viscosity, kinematic viscosity, and absolute viscosity. During the painting process, the viscosity of the coating commonly measured by the Tu-4 viscometer on the production site is the relative viscosity. In addition to the commonly used Tu-4 viscometer, viscosity testing also includes Tu-1 viscometer, drop ball viscometer, and less commonly used rotary viscometer for detecting high viscosity.
