Properties and Applications of Mildew-Proof Floor Coatings

News from Dongguan Jinfeng Coatings: According to different film-forming substances and dispersion media, mildew-proof floor coatings can be divided into two categories: solvent-based and water-emulsion type. They can also be classified by application into exterior-use, interior-use and special-purpose mildew-proof coatings.

The fundamental difference between mildew-proof floor coatings and ordinary decorative floor coatings is that a certain amount of mildew inhibitor is added to the former during the manufacturing process.

There are various molds in the natural environment. Common types include: Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus versicolor, Penicillium citrinum, Paecilomyces, Cladosporium herbarum, Trichoderma, Chaetomium globosum, Alternaria, Mucor, etc.

Therefore, the measures adopted must be able to inhibit the growth of these molds.

Mildew inhibitors used in conventional mildew-proof floor coatings shall meet the following requirements:

1. The substance shall not react chemically with components in the floor coating (film-forming substance, pigments, fillers and additives) to lose its effectiveness in inhibiting mold growth.

2. It shall not stain the floor coating or fade the color in the coating.

3. After the floor coating is applied and forms a film, the substance can be evenly dispersed in the coating and inhibit mold growth on the coating surface for a long time.

4. After film formation, the floor coating shall be harmless to the human body.

Commonly used mildew inhibitors include: sodium pentachlorophenol, phenylmercuric acetate, carbendazim, chlorothalonil, special mildew inhibitors, etc. Among them, sodium pentachlorophenol and phenylmercuric acetate are highly toxic and should be used with caution.
