Advantages of Water-Based Epoxy Resin Floor Coatings

At present, water-based epoxy resin floor coatings are mainly applied in the following fields:

1. Concrete Sealing Primer

Water-based epoxy resin coatings can be constructed on wet or newly poured concrete surfaces with excellent adhesion to concrete. They can seal water vapor in concrete capillaries and prevent alkali efflorescence, making them ideal for use as concrete sealing primers. Solvent-based or water-based epoxy floor coatings can be applied on top of the sealing primer.

2. Adhesives

The mixing ratio requirement of water-based epoxy resin coatings is not particularly strict. It can be cured within the epoxy group to amine hydrogen ratio of 0.7:1 to 1.3:1 without precise proportioning measurement. As an adhesive, water-based epoxy resin is applicable to the bonding of new and old concrete, repair of precast cement products, and lamination adhesives for paper and plastic.

3. Waterproofing, Anti-Seepage and Leakage-Stop Materials

When compounded with cement and sand, water-based epoxy resin coatings can be used as waterproof materials. The cross-linked network of epoxy and hydration curing of cement endow the waterproof material with excellent anti-seepage and leakage-stopping effects. It can be used for crack repair on roofs and floors, achieving water-free effect within several hours.

4. Glass Fiber Sizing Agent

The polar hydroxyl groups and ether bonds in epoxy resin molecules show strong adhesion to the glass fiber surface, providing good protection and bundling performance for glass fibers. Meanwhile, epoxy resin, as a film-forming agent combined with other components, facilitates the stable storage of sizing agents. The application of foreign water-based epoxy resin emulsions in glass fiber sizing agents has been quite mature.

5. Industrial Floor Coatings

Industrial floor coating is one of the important applications of water-based epoxy resin coatings. With low odor and easy-to-clean coating surface, water-based epoxy coatings are especially suitable for places requiring high cleanliness, such as hospitals, food factories, supermarkets, dairy factories and cosmetic factories. It will not affect recoating performance in case of secondary renovation, and the new and old coatings can maintain good adhesion.

6. Coatings for Nuclear Facilities

Using water as the dispersion medium, water-based epoxy resin coatings contain no or very low volatile organic compounds and are non-flammable, ensuring high safety during storage, transportation and application. Moreover, the cured coating film can easily remove radioactive contamination. Its good recoatability facilitates repeated renovation of nuclear power plants. Many foreign countries have approved the application of water-based epoxy resin coatings inside nuclear power stations.
