Epoxy flooring is one of the most widely used floor systems at present. However, there are still many difficulties during construction, especially oil contamination treatment. Many flooring projects face the problem of oil-containing base surfaces, which commonly occurs with polyurethane flooring and other types. So how do we solve the difficulty of oil control and oil removal?
Ground CleaningRinse the floor with water to wash away oil stains. Immediately wipe off all moisture with clean cloths to prevent residual water from causing oil to seep out again.
Flame Burning RemovalDirect flame burning can be adopted for local oily areas, but care must be taken not to damage the structural quality of the base floor.
Weak Acid RinsingUse low-concentration acidic cleaning solution for flushing. It is essential to adopt only dilute acid liquid; excessively high concentration will destroy the chemical structure of floor coatings and cause permanent damage to the flooring material.
Alkaline Solution CleaningDaily detergents such as dish soap work well. They can emulsify and decompose oil molecules and are currently the most commonly used solvents for oil stain cleaning.
Grinding TreatmentFor floors where oil keeps seeping back after the above methods, grind off the oil-penetrated surface layer partially, repair and level the area, then inspect again for oil infiltration.
Ventilation DryingFor well-ventilated sites, adopt natural drying treatment. Keep the area well ventilated, and the residual oil will gradually volatilize and dry out in a few days.
After thorough oil removal, the ground will show a whitish appearance. If oil remains uncleaned, the surface will stay dark and glossy. Once oil contamination is completely eliminated, construction can proceed with sealing hardener and other chemical coatings.
